African Top Manta Hawkers in Barcelona

African Top Manta Hawkers in Barcelona [enlarge]

It is not unusual to find African hawkers selling false Louis Vuitton and Carolina Herrera handbags in Barcelona. Holding the ropes tied to their blankets (sp. manta) they quickly pick up the merchandise in case the police show up. This picture was taken at Passeig de Gracia although it could have been taken anywhere in the city.

Note: I recently improved my gear. I was in love with my Nikon D70s but I got a brand new D7000 (bought in the US cheaper). I am trying to get used to all the new features but man, am I happy! I hope the new stimulus makes me publish more frequently.

My screen is a bit small and as I scrolled down I saw what looked like leashing - expecting to see a variety of dogs attached not bags... broke into laughter and want you to know I much needed it. Thanks.

Glad you are happy with your new toy and the photos will be even more of a joy to view :o) Very nice!!

These african traders are definitely a common site in Barcelona. The police seem to pursue them relentlessly and they always seem to be super alert and ready to run as soon as they even suspect a policeman being around.

I have even see them conduct sales 'on the run' while ladies who are desperate for their new bags run alongside them trying to negotiate a good deal :o)

I just wish that the police were as strict with the hoards of prostitutes who flooded La Rambla last time I was there.

They ruined the lovely experience as they were very pushy and arrived in a group of 20 or so. I even saw them approaching men who were with their wives and children.

hope you are fit and well Carlos :o)
