Cherry Tomatoes in Barcelona

Some beautiful ripe cherry tomatoes as seen at a shop across the street. Their succulent, juicy appearance was worth shooting. I like the contrast with the green beans or the asparagus nearby.

Lycopersicon esculentum: Tomato

Lycopersicon esculentum: Tomato [enlarge]

Lycopersicon esculentum Montserrat is what is commonly known as Tomaquet de Montserrat. Remember I am not a botanist though. I bought them as Montserrat tomatoes but this one in particular has a peculiar shape which makes me doubt. The point is that it is a juicy tomato and it cost me about 3 EUR. So as you can guess, it is great! Guess what, I got it for the picture. My wife has been two days waiting for me to shoot till finally today in the evening we made some tasty salad. They are really worth the money. For more clues, we bought them at Horta market although you can find them elsewhere in Catalonia.

Mediterranean Tomatoes

Ripe and green tomatoes

There is nothing better than a good ripe tomato recently harvested. That is a fact. Probably one of the best products to illustrate the difference between your own orchard and big markets is a tomato. I don't know what happens along the way but the one we buy at the corner shop or at the supermarket is definitely different from the ones you grow yourself or buy on location directly to the farmer. This is what happens with this ripe tomato I captured at Monistrol market. It was a product from a small personal crop. Fresh healthy tomatoes with all the good properties mother nature gave them are an essential part of world known Mediterranean diet. You just need some olive oil, some green salad, some fish or meat, some red wine accompanied by some exercise to live longer among other things like luck!

Barcelona Green Tomatoes

If you liked the previous flower maybe you like the green color of these tomatoes picked up at some friends' vegetable garden in Bellaterra, just outside the city of Barcelona. Tomorrow I finally start my summer holidays, but I promise I will do all I can to post at least once a week, or even more. Maybe I publish two or three pictures the same day. This situation will last till September when I will be here strictly "daily". Have a nice summer and run away from the heat! It is so hot in Barcelona I should have called the post Fried Green Tomatoes.
