Paella n. A saffron-flavored Spanish dish made with varying combinations of rice, vegetables, meat, chicken, and seafood originating in the town of Valencia. Hum...not exactly. As you see the element of surprise was missing in the definition. Not that I disapprove having paella at Las Ramblas, where you can enjoy the view and stretch your tired tourist legs under the effect of huge Sangrias served in "buckets", but an experimented native gourmet would say it is almost a sacrilege. Maybe this sort of parody was meant to warn innocent tourists, we will never know. If you want another angle, there you go.

ReplyDeleteGlad you like it, Marie, thanks
ReplyDeleteI like paella but is this suppose to help promote the dish? :o
ReplyDeleteNice catch!
urg! I think I'll never order a paella with meat at las ramblas :-)
ReplyDeleteI ate an ewquisite paella at el 7 Portes, and a very bad one at el Puerto Olympico..
>Hahaha, no it is not good promotion I guess. In fact paella, can be extremely good or bad. It depends on the ingredients, how much you use and how fresh they are. You can use seafood or rabbit and even both, etc. It is excellent with squid and what's most important the rice must not be two dry, so it is not advisable to just sit an ask for paella at any place. Of course there has to be good ones at Las Ramblas but massification and paellas don´t mix well. Thanks Kris.
ReplyDelete>marjorie you have given two examples that serve to illustrate the above comment. 7 Portes is a good restaurant at Paseo Isabel II and many restaurants at Port Olympic are not fit. I dare to recommend you all this one http://www.arrosseriaxativa.com/. I wish I could get a commision for this tip. -). Thanks marjorie
