Homeless Immigrants in Barcelona

Same as it ever was...Same as it ever was...Same as it ever was...And you may find yourself living in a shotgun shack, And you may find yourself in another part of the world. And you may ask yourself-Well...How did I get here?...Letting the days go by/let the water hold me down, Letting the days go by/water flowing underground, into the blue again/after the money's gone, Once in a lifetime/water flowing underground. Hmm...Talking Heads. If you read between the lines and you look at this man sitting here on top his belongings, leaning on that platain tree and staring vacantly into space in the middle of Plaça Catalunya you will realize that your future is always balancing on a tight but uncertain rope, today you are here and tomorrow you are there, into the blue again after the money is gone. Being homeless in Barcelona or in any other big city is really tough but being homeless and an immigrant is even worse.

  1. That is the face of a man who has suffered much and for a long time. Your comments are sensitive and I think the photo is too - how can one not feel compassion and a kinship with fellow human beings who suffer? It is the slightest of circumstances that spare one and harm another.

  2. What happened to the Blond link?! Ya want some suffering? ;-)

  3. -You are right Queltica. Thanks for expressing your opinion here.
-Me why? You got it in my blogrolling list. Second place of the list. I don't want to suffer, please don't hurt me. :)

I don't know. People see photographs like this one and "assume" the man is poor, or depressed, or homeless. It could be just the opposite. That man could have more money in the banks than all the people seen around him. That his sneakers are dirty doesn't mean much more than that he likes them and wears them a because they are comfortable.

I think the human race who are civilized, at least, begin to categorize people the instant they see them. And in this case, most think or believe he is something that they do not know to be true but nevertheless that's how people see other people. I think it is a big mistake to put people you do not know into a certain category. If you stop to think about it, I think your opinion might change.

By the way, thanks for stopping at my blog, Carlos. I appreciate seeing you there.

  5. Bien escrito, Carlos

Menuda expresión, menuda mirada. parece estar pregunatándose todo y nada a la vez
    Un saludo

Carlos, I have really enjoyed seeing your photographs of Barcelona. This is a particularly touching photo. I'll get to experience Barcelona first hand in just one week! I'm truly excited to see some places in person that I've only seen through your amazing photos! Gracies, Cathy
